Volunteer Ideas for Families in Clinton County
Volunteer Clinton County·May 12, 2026
Great family volunteering ideas in Clinton County, PA for parents and kids who want to give back together.
Volunteering as a family teaches children that helping others is a normal part of life — not a special event, but a habit. Clinton County has plenty of family-friendly options.
AGES 5 TO 8: KEEP IT SIMPLE AND TANGIBLE
Young children do best with tasks that have a clear beginning and end, involve some physical activity, and produce a visible result. Good options at this age: book sorting and donation preparation at Ross Library, planting seedlings at a community garden event, helping pack food bags at a food pantry (with close adult supervision).
AGES 9 TO 12: MORE CAPABLE, STILL NEED STRUCTURE
Kids in this range can take on more responsibility. Trail maintenance days with the Susquehanna Greenway are excellent — the work is physical and outdoors, the tasks are clear, and groups are welcome. Donation drives are also great at this age: kids can manage collection boxes, count items, and help with delivery.
AGES 13 AND UP: ALMOST ADULT ROLES
Teenagers can take on nearly any volunteer role that does not require clearances. The SPCA, food pantries, and library all accept teenage volunteers for most tasks. At 14, students can join the Avis Fire Company junior auxiliary. For roles involving direct work with younger children, Pennsylvania clearances are required regardless of the volunteer's age.
WHAT TO ASK BEFORE YOU BRING YOUR KIDS
Always contact the organization before showing up with children. Ask: What is the minimum age for this role? Are there tasks appropriate for kids? Does the organization have experience with family volunteer groups?
